What do Mary Karr, Marilynne Robinson, Eugene Peterson, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Michael Chabon Have in Common?

They all have been, or will be, speaking at the Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College. I've attended the last two Festivals, in 2008 and 2010, and this year, I will be a much-less-exciting-than-the-aforementioned-people speaker too! I'm already ordering books by the keynote speakers and others of interest, and I invite all of you who are writers or readers or people of faith (not just the Christian faith) to join me. The Festival includes a wonderful roster of speakers–this year includes Judith Shulevitz, author of The Sabbath World, John Wilson, editor of Books and Culture, Marilynne Robinson, author Home and Gilead, and Jonathan Safran Foer, author of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, among others. You can also participate in "circle" discussions surrounding topics related to writing and faith, attend "practical" sessions about the craft of writing, meet with agents and editors if you are working on a manuscript, and enjoy the company of others who are thinking about similar things. I met my agent, indirectly, through the Festival. And I met some other young writers who have kept me company and taught me much through these early years of my career. So save the date–April 19-21 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'll be there, and I'd love for you to join me.
