How can I effectively balance my roles as parent and spouse?
Look to the example of God, the heavenly Father.
Deuteronomy 8:1-10

Sometimes it seems that the demands of parenting never end. Kids always need something—new shoes, help with homework, a story read, a ride to baseball practice, a listening ear. As a parent, you have to fill all sorts of roles: teacher, chauffeur, disciplinarian, love giver, nurse, trainer, and treasurer.

All these demands create pressure! But when you look at the example of God, the heavenly Father, you see how pressure is the flipside of privilege. Yes, God found it frustrating to take care of His children, the Israelites. They always wanted something from Him! And most of the time they weren't even grateful.

But at the same time, God was delighted to give the Israelites the things they needed—not just food and clothing, but also discipline and nurture. He knew that children need attentive parenting more than anything else in the world.

When the pressures of parenting are wearing you out, try to remember the great privilege parents have! In a very real way, parents show how their children what God is like. Let your children understand God's provision by providing for their needs. And train them in gratitude toward God by teaching them to be grateful for the things their earthly parents do for them. (See also Job 38:1-40:5; 1 Peter 4:1-8.)

Good Words To Remember:
When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God. —Deuteronomy 8:10

Today's Challenge:
How can looking at God as parent give you a different perspective on your parenting?
