How can I forgive someone who's broken my trust?
Pass on God's love.
Matthew 18:21-35
Has someone ever been really good to you, and you felt "eternally grateful"? Maybe he even said to you, "You don't have to thank me. Just pass the good deed on to someone else."
That seems to be what God says to you, too. Yes, because God's forgiven you a great deal, he wants you to thank him. But he also asks you to ponder the huge debt of love you owe him—to the extent that you're willing to pass it on to someone as undeserving as you.
This is such a hand thing because you simply cannot forgive on your own. You have no power—because the power only comes with being forgiven. It's as if that forgiveness has not only paid your debt to God, but put forgiveness into a savings account from which you can pay the debts of others. How? With warm smiles and gentle conversations that flow from a heart that wants to forgive. (See also Numbers 14:11-25; 1 Samuel 24; Matthew 7:1-5; Luke 6:27-36.)
