Not many passages of Scripture (other than Proverbs 31) specifically define the role of a wife, or even the role of a woman. But much of Scripture tells how God's people as a whole ought to think and live. These general passages hold valuable principles a wife can use to create a healthy marriage and a happy home.

Ecclesiastes 7:11-14 is one such passage. When you're stirring up a macaroni-and-cheese dinner for the third night in a row due to tight finances, reading "Wisdom is good with an inheritance" can bring laughter to life. (It'll also give you some needed long-range perspective for when you're husband spends money on an expensive hobby instead of purchasing the new kitchen sink you'd talked about!)

Above all, the writer of Ecclesiastes shows that you need to trust God, no matter the circumstances of your home, finances, or marriage. It's clear that God is in control—in good times and bad. And you can rest easy in the future because of "the work of God" in the past! (See also Proverbs 31:10-31; Colossians 2:15-19.)

Wisdom is good with an inheritance, and profitable to those who see the sun. For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, but the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it. Consider the work of God. Ecclesiastes 7:11-13
