How can I know what's best for my elderly parents?
Show respect to your parents by living a godly life.
Proverbs 23:22-25

These verses from Proverbs are a reminder of the commandment "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12). The proverbs here reflect the ideals of that day. Since the father was responsible for spiritual guidance in the Hebrew religious culture, the best way to honor him was to live in the light of his teaching. Mothers were the primary caregivers, so they took great pride in their children. In short, the best way to honor parents was to live a godly life. In an age without social security, part of that godly life was for children to care for their elderly parents.

Although our society offers a variety of ways to care for aging parents, one thing hasn't changed: The Bible is unequivocable in stating its expectation that you care for your parents and make them proud. Reflecting God's character in all you do for them will bring them joy. (See also Psalm 25; Joel 2:28-32; 1 Corinthians 15:35-58; 1 Timothy 5:1-7.)

Good Words to Remember:
Listen to your father and mother who begot you, and do not despite your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22

Today's Challenge:
How can you and your spouse more fully support each other?
