What does God expect of me?
Follow God's rules for loving Him and others.
Exodus 20:1-17
Did you ever try to have a relationship with someone who wouldn't tell you what he wanted? It's frustrating! You can try your hardest, but you're never sure you're doing exactly the right thing. And sometimes you might offend himwhen you're just trying to be nice!
With God, you'll never have that problem. You don't have to guess what he wants. God tells you exactly what he expects you to do to have a healthy relationship with him. The Ten Commandments lay down the ground rules for your relationship with Godand with others.
The first four commandments deal with how to treat God: he is to be the most important person in your life. You are not to worship anyone else, and you are to respect his name and his special day. This sets Christians apart from all other people on earth!
The last six commandments tell how to behave toward others. God's people must not lie, murder, commit adultery, steal, disrespect their parents, or covet each other's possessions. God commands you to follow these rules so you can demonstrate how much you love Him by the way you act toward other people. (See also Judges 5:1-11; Jeremiah 1:4-19; Micah 6:6-8; Romans 8:1-17.)
Good Words to Remember:
I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God. Exodus 20:5
