How can I overcome my feelings of loneliness?
Enjoy the company of Christ.
Revelation 3:20-22
Singleness can be lonely at times. Sure, you can fill your day with friends, activities, work, and family members, but by eleven o'clock at night, when other women are snuggling into bed with a husband, you turn off the lights alone. Breakfast is a place setting for one, and holidays find you heading back to your childhood home. But you always get the roll-away cot on the porch because there's only one of you. Vacations are organized group affairs, or you skip them altogether. You're beginning to think about retirementalone.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Jesus invites himself for supper! He says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me." Jesus wants to get close to you, to talk with you, to keep you company. So when you're feeling extra lonely, invite him as a dinner guestor anytime guest!
Inviting Jesus through the door of your life won't relieve all the loneliness of singlenessespecially the need for human relationships. But in a spiritual sense, you need never be alone again. You'll always have the company of Jesus. (See also Psalm 22; Psalm 68:4-6; Matthew 26:36-46; 2 Timothy 4:16-18.)
Good Words to Remember:
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
