How can I have healthy friendships with people of the opposite sex?
Don't be afraid to ask for appropriate help.
2 Kings 4:1-7 | posted 1/30/2009

Elisha was a great prophet and teacher. Other prophets, young men who loved and served God, followed him around to learn from him. Some of these men had wives and children—like the widow in this story. Her husband had been one of Elisha's followers, but when he died, he left her with debts to pay and two sons to raise. Finally her creditors decided to take her children as slaves in repayment for her debts. This widow appealed to Elisha for help. Elisha performed a miracle by multiplying a small amount of oil so she could sell it and earn the money to pay her creditors.

The widow's friendship with her husband's teacher enabled her to save her children from slavery. Through Elisha, God delivered this widow. And when you're in difficulty, God can use your friends, too!

One important point to remember: Never ask a friend of the opposite sex for help until you've first asked your spouse. Your spouse should always be given that opportunity. But if you are single, or your spouse is unable to help, friends can be a gift from God for your protection and assistance. (See also 1 Samuel 25; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8).

Good Words to Remember:

Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you?" 2 Kings 4:2

Today's Challenge:

Are you asking men/women appropriately for help when needed?
