Relationships between men and women are still fraught with a great deal of confusion and misunderstanding. The focus in recent years on differing leadership and communication styles, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment highlights the fact that our culture is still struggling to figure out how men and women can work together effectively.

In this passage, Paul sets forth some wonderfully simple ideas for getting along together which, when applied to relationships between men and women, can be quite transforming. First, those of us who are trying to live according to spiritual values need to do what we can to help others (6:1). Women can help men by being loving but not seductive in the way they dress and act around them. Second, it's important to do our work well (6:4, 5). When men see women being competent and able to carry their weight on the job, men respect women and enjoy having them as coworkers.

One thing is for sure. You harvest what you plant (6:7). If you "plant" seductive behavior, selfishness, and poor working habits, you'll reap predicable results. If, on the other hand, you're appropriate, generous, and competent in relationships with opposite-gender coworkers, eventually you'll be rewarded with their respect and friendship.
