How can I keep my life centered on God?
Stay open to the presence and influence of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-26
One of the most enigmatic realities of the Christian life is the presence and influence of the Holy Spirit. We try to capture the nature of the Holy Spirit in words and images such as wind, breath, fire, or life-giving force, but we're still left with a limited view of how the Spirit works in our lives.
One of the ways you can better "see" the reality of the Spirit in you is when you discover you're no longer compelled to fulfill your selfish desires (the results of which Paul aptly describes in Galatians 5:19-21). Instead, the presence of the Spirit produces in you love, joy, peace, patience, and many other life-giving qualities, qualities you can't create through your own efforts. The Bible says that the Spirit is like the wind that blows where it chooses (John 3:8). You cannot control the Spirit any more than you can control the wind. You can, however, open your heart to God's Spirit through silence and prayer, expectantly inviting him to move through your life and transform you. (See also Genesis 12:1-7; Matthew 25:31-46; Acts 13:1-5; 2 Timothy 2:14-26; 2 John.)
Good Words to Remember:
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25
Today's Challenge:
Have you opened your heart to the Holy Spirit's work?
