I like being single. Is that normal?
God wants you to be content where he puts you.
Numbers 11
Today's culture often breeds on discontent. Every TV ad you see, every how-to book you read, and every magazine you pick up tells you that you can't be happy unless you buy something, follow someone's diet or exercise plan, or get a new job. The list never ends!
As a single, you may feel this pressure in a slightly different way. Even if you're perfectly content where you are, others may put pressure on you to marry because they assume you can't possibly be happy being on your own.
Be glad you're content with being single, for discontent should have no place in the life of the believer. In the Old Testament, God's judgment came on those who were discontented with their lot in life. God gave his people bread in the desert, but they refused to be happy with what they had. Instead, they complained and wished for the food that they had back in Egypt. What was God's response to this attitude? He sent them what they wantedmeat to eatand many of them died from it.
God's message is clear. He wants you to be content with life, whether married or single. (See also Nehemiah 4; 6:15, 16; Romans 14:1-12; 1 Corinthians 7:29-35.)
Good Words to Remember:
The LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD's arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not?" Numbers 11:23
Today's Challenge:
Are there any areas of life in which you are discontent? How can you move toward contentment?
