You realize it requires both union and separation.

You are an individual, so how could you possibly become one with ay other person—even your spouse? Marriage creates that seemingly impossible union—but not without work and sometimes a measure of pain. It all began when God looked at the then-perfect person he'd made and said, "It is not good that man should be alone" (2:18). So God created man and woman and with them the concept of marriage.
But union also means separation. For many people, their most loving ties are with the family where they grew up. After marriage, you can still love that family, but you must put your spouse first. Part of that union is sex. And guess what? Genesis shows that when the world was perfect, the first husband and wife ran around naked and felt no shame at all. That's something to remember when you worry about the way your body looks due to pregnancy or just the added pounds that years may bring. (See also Ruth 1:15-18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-31.)
