What does a healthy, successful marriage look like?
It's focused and committed.
Hebrews 13:4 | posted 1/30/2009

There are times in every marriage when one partner wonders if there's any love left in the relationship. He might start thinking about the ways his marriage failed to meet his expectations, or the times his spouse disappointed him. He might start thinking that there isn't much left to hold onto in a relationship that seems to be dying.

But for many couples, such times are only the low point in the cycle of changing seasons that mark a lifetime together. While we'd like to think it's the norm, the idea of a marriage that's consistently filled with unending love is unrealistic. After all, men and women are human beings, complete with changing moods, feelings, and desires. It's natural for relationships to be affected by those changes.

By focusing on the commitment they've made before God, couples can weather the times in their marriage when love seems to fade. By building a marriage that's based on a respect for that commitment, the institution of marriage itself, a husband and wife can be assured that they'll survive the times when love isn't quite enough. (See also Genesis 2:18-23; Exodus 32:11-14; Song of Solomon 8:5-7; Hosea 14:4-8; Acts 18.)

Good Words to Remember:

Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled. Hebrews 13:4

Today's Challenge:

How do you handle the "low times" in your marriage?
