How can I find satisfaction with my life outside of work?
Realize your value doesn't depend on what you do but on who God is.
Deuteronomy 8:10-20
It's easy to get caught up in the demands of work. Sometimes you may feel that your job is the only activity that really rewards you-after all, your kids don't give you a paycheck. Sometimes you may think that your coworkers are the only people who really recognize your value-hey, your husband didn't even notice that you'd cleaned the bathroom, but your boss praised your last project to the skies.
This passage makes it clear that no matter what you're doingor who is praising or not praising youGod values you. Your success at home or at work, as God reminds the Israelites, comes because of God's blessings on you. Ultimately, God is the One who gives you the energy to complete your tasks at work, and God is in control of your home and all the to-dos awaiting you there.
Once you know this, you can relax a bit. You don't have to let work consume all your energies. You can leave the workplace (or shut the door on your at-home office) on time, knowing you've done a good day's work.
So do your best on the job; then leave and enjoy your off-work hours! Remember that, whether on the job or off, God is your partner. He is the One who gives you the strength you need daily. (See also Ecclesiastes3:1-14; Isaiah 55:1-5.)
Good Words to Remember:
You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth. Deut. 8:18
