I'm struggling with depression, and I feel so alone. Does God really care?
God can be trusted.
Lamentations 3:17-26 | posted 1/30/2009

"My soul … sinks within me." What better description could there be of the state of depression than that phrase? And it comes directly from Lamentations, in the Bible. When you're depressed, you feel sunk—as if all hope has left you forever. It's as if your spirit has been plunged underwater, is being held there against your will, and is gasping feebly for air. You're convinced that no one cares about you or your plight; you're certain that the situation you're in will never change. And especially if you've been wounded by someone you trust, you wonder if you can ever trust anyone again.

But in this time of heaviness and heartbreak, there's One who can be trusted, who will never wound you, never walk away. That Person is God. And his Word assures you that he is "good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." That means even this dark valley isn't for naught; he has a purpose in leading you through it. Perhaps someday you'll be able to help a friend who's going through a similar valley. In the meanwhile, he asks you to trust him—because he is ultimately faithful to you. (See also Job 30:16-31; Psalm 16:7-9; Psalm 46.)

Good Words to Remember:

Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Today's Challenge:

Do you trust God? Really trust him when the going gets rough? If not, why not? How can you "grow" your trust factor?
