How Should I Pray?
Praise God and confess your sins.
Nehemiah 1
God wants to hear your needs. But if you pour out nothing but requests to God, you miss the point of prayer. Prayer is not meant to be like placing a celestial catalog order; it's communication between you and God. That communication falls short of all it could be if you forget to acknowledge who God isthe great, fearsome, faithful, and loving Lord of heaven, worthy of praise (1:5)and who we areweak people who have chosen to disobey and need to confess our sins (1:6, 7). Amazingly, despite the enormous gap between who God is and who you are, God promises to hear your prayers! (See also 2 Samuel 7:19-29; 2 Kings 19:14-19; 2 Chronicles 6; 7; Psalm 85; Lamentations 5; Matthew 6:5-15; Acts 4:23-31.)
Good Words to Remember:
LORD God of heaven, O great and awesome God, you
keep your covenant and mercy with those who love you and observe your commandments. Nehemiah 1:5
Today's Challenge:
Do you pray as if God is really listening?
