How can I resist the pressure to be sexually active?
Respect God's good gift.
James 1:12-18 | posted 1/30/2009

If you believe what you see and hear in magazines, on television, in books and movies, you might just think that casual sex is one of the greatest things in life—something wonderful you're missing out on because of your beliefs. But those images only show half the picture.

What you rarely see in those movies and books are the damaged self-images, the struggling marriages, the emotional pain, and the physical disease caused by sex that strays from God's intentions. As passionate and satisfying as premarital sex appears, it's a ticket to misery and heartache.

That's why God intended sex as a unique bond between two people committed to each other for life. Without the commitment of marriage, sex leaves people feeling used, cheated, and insecure. And those kinds of feelings are far from what God wants for you.

When you're feeling tempted by sex, remember that God wants you to wait, not so he can test your strength, but so that you can experience the gift of sex as God intended it: a pure, holy, and loving expression of lifelong commitment. (See also Joshua 7; Psalm 103; Ephesians 6:10-20; 2 Peter 2:7-9.)

Good Words to Remember:

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

Today's Challenge:

The next time someone pressures you to have sex, what will you say?
