Sometimes I really want to be married. How can I deal with those times?
Remember God holds your future in his hands.
Jeremiah 29:10-14 | posted 1/30/2009

Sometimes God allows you to go through difficult times, times when you don't get what you want. In this passage, God allowed his people to be carried off to Babylonia and remain captive for seventy years. But God had a plan, a plan for restoration and blessing. Even the captivity was part of that plan—in their case, he wanted them to turn from their sin and acknowledge that he, and he only, is God.

If you're single, you may wonder what God has in mind for you for the future. Will you get married? Will you have children? Maybe, unlike the Israelites, you've led a pure and godly life and yet you still don't have your heart's longing: a Christian spouse.

When you're tempted to doubt the goodness of your situation, tell God about it. Turn to him and ask for help (29:12). God understands, and he's eager to answer your prayers. He knows what your future holds, and he promises it will be good. Work through your feelings before God, knowing he'll take care of you now and forever. Trust his timing. (See also Psalm 84; 1 Peter 3:13-18.)

Good Words to Remember:

I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says, the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:11, 12

Today's Challenge:

What do you wonder about the future? Ask for God's help.
