God is the only One who knows the future.

All sorts of people will promise you about the future—that they know which investments will rise and fall, what you'll be doing in five yeas, what will happen to your children, whom you'll marry, how long you'll live, and so on. And it's part of your human nature to be curious—God created us with inquisitive spirits. But you shouldn't waste your time on things that can't really know the future, when only God can.
In this passage of Isaiah, God invites "idols" (those things that sidetrack us from a true relationship with God) to argue their case with him. He quickly shows that they don't know the past, they don't know the future, they can't prove their predictions and claims, and they are utterly powerless. So why should you pay any attention to them when you've got the real thing—the all-knowing, all-powerful God of the universe—on your side? He's the only One who knows your past, present, and future. No matter what happens, you're safe eternally in his hands. (See also Deuteronomy 18:10-14; 1 Samuel 28:3-25; Isaiah 41:21-29; Isaiah 47:12-15; Micah 5:12-15.)
Good Words to Remember:
They [idols] are all worthless; their works are nothing; their molded images are wind and confusion. Isaiah 41:29
Today's Challenge:
Are there any "idols" in your life that you count on more than God? If so, how can you turn your focus back to the only One who truly knows your future, and loves you intensely?
