Why does the Bible talk about submission in marriage? What does God mean by it?
Mutual submission leads to a peaceful home life.
Proverbs 17:1
If you've ever been around a couple who argues a lot, you know you can feel the tension in the air-from the time you walk in their front door. It isn't fun to visit them, is it?
But when a husband and wife submit to one another, always looking for the best in each other and respecting one another, they are a witness to outsiders about God's love (especially in a day when many marriages are breaking apart). Whether they have much (a feast) or little (a dry crust-or maybe today's version, macaroni-and-cheese!) isn't the point. What's important is how people treat each other.
If your apartment, dorm room, or home is filled with "peace and quiet," people will wont to be there. And you may have a chance to introduce them not only to what a healthy marriage looks like, but to the Ultimate Healer, Jesus Christ! (See also Ephesians 5:21-33; Philippians 2:1-11.)
Good Words to Remember:
Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife. Proverbs 17:1
Today's Challenge:
On a scale of 1 (no peace) to 10 (very peaceful), where would you rank your home life? Why?
