My husband is sometimes threatened by my career. How should I respond?
Focus on Christ's power, not your own.
Luke 3:7-20
People naturally tend to rank others by the relative value they perceive in their work, and may feel threatened when they think their value is diminished by someone else's position. Even John the Baptist, whose sole purpose was to point to the coming Messiah, discovered that people were just as interested in John's statusCould John be the Messiah? (3:15)as in his message.
In marriage it's easy to forget we're all ultimately working as servants of God. Instead of seeing yourself and your spouse in relationship to Christ, sometimes you focus on the status you perceive your careers give you. But if you communicate to your spouse that you don't consider yourself or your career to be of the greatest importance, you demonstrate the truth that Christ is more powerful than any CEO or high-powered executive. Together husbands and wives can work for Christ in the careers he has given each of them. (See also Numbers 12; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.)
Good Words to Remember:
John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Luke 3:16
Today's Challenge:
What's more important to youyour career or your spouse? How do you actively show that?
