How can I lead my unbelieving spouse to Christ without offending him/her?
Keep doing what's right and leave the rest to God.
Genesis 39; 41:39
Being married to an unbeliever is hard. The Christian spouse feels that everything he/she does reflects on God. Besides, both of them have differing ideas about what is right and wrongand how important all of that is anyway. And underneath is the constant hope that someday, somehow, his/her spouse will join him/her in faith.
Joseph had a similar problem. Through no fault of his own, he got dumped into a pagan household and given a lot of responsibility. The problem was that the boss's wife had an eye for his body. Joseph refused and was careful to state his reasons. They had nothing to do with her, but he could not commit such a sin against God (39:9). In the short term, things got rapidly worse. She yelled, "Rape!" and Joseph went to jail. But God was still at work. Much later, the king admitted that Joseph was wiseand so was his God.
Like Joseph, a Christian wife should avoid unnecessary conflict. But when serious moral issues erupt, she must be firm. She should explain that she does not blame her husband, but that she has a responsibility to God. Remember, even after you have done all you can, God is still at work. (See also Song of Solomon 2:16-3:4; John 13:1-17; 1 Peter 3:1-6; Revelation 21:9-22:21.)
Good Words to Remember:
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you." Genesis 41:39
Today's Challenge:
Have you truly "left the rest" to God?
