How can I have healthy relationships with the people I work with?
Be someone your coworkers can count on.
Esther 4 | posted 1/30/2009

Relationships at work are often based on work. If you want a healthy relationship with the people you work with, you should expect to make your deadline, sell your quota, present a professional proposal, treat your clients with courtesy, or type your letters without mistakes. Your coworkers should be able to count on you not to let them or your company look bad.

But sometimes being counted on involves unusual effort and risk. Esther carried the fate of the Jewish people in her hands. If she failed, she would die and so would they. But if she succeeded, she might save them all. Esther took the risk. She listened to her wise relative Mordecai, and asked him to join her in a fast (a sign of asking God's help). Then she observed all the customs she had learned from her years in the palace and approached the king. Esther succeeded, and Jewish people tell her story to this day.

To enjoy healthy relationships with people at work, use all your skills to do the best job that you can. Be a person they can count on—and be innovative and courageous. (See also Proverbs 5; Romans 12: 9-18; Galatians 6: 1-10.)

Good Words To Remember:

(Mordecai said to Esther,) "Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" —Esther 4:14
