Sometimes I think it's okay to work while my kids are young; other times I'm not sure. How can I be certain I'm making the best decision for my family?
Make sure your priorities align with Scripture.
Titus 2:3-8
To work or not to workit's definitely one of the biggest, toughest decisions women face. It's a choice that affects not only you, but your whole family. You wonder, Will my children be all right without me around? Will I be satisfied as a stay-at-home mom? Can we make it on one income?
This passage of Scripture can help. It clearly states what godly priorities should be for all women, whether older or younger. Older women are to "be reverent in behavior" (2:3) and "teachers of good thingsthat they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children" (2:3, 4). Younger women must be "discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husband. That the word of God may not be blasphemed" (2:5).
No matter what choice you make (whether to work fulltime, part time, or stay at home), you need to make sure that your priorities are in line with Scripture: God first, family second; whatever else you do third. This may mean staying home with your kidsor it may mean if you choose to work, saying no to community work, more schooling, extra church commitments, or long hours at work. Above all, your priority must be to honor Godand to obey what his Holy Spirit prompts you to do. (See also Proverbs 16:1-3; Romans 14:13-23)
Good Words to Remember:
In all things [show] yourself to be a pattern of good works. Titus 2:7
Today's Challenge:
Are your priorities aligned with God first, family second, and everything else third? Why, or why not?
