John C. LaRue, Jr. | posted 3/01/2000

The topic of pastor salaries can be a controversial one. By addressing the issue in this Special Report, I hope to provide information to churches that will help them fairly compensate their pastors. In 1991, Christianity Today International, conducted its first compensation study for YOUR CHURCH. Follow-up research was done in 1996 and again at the end of 1999 to allow for this update. Here are seven key findings about pastor pay.

1. It's better to ask for a raise.

Nine of ten pastors feel it's appropriate to ask for a raise, but only half have done so. Amazingly, three-fourths of those who asked for a raise received one at or near the desired amount.

John C. LaRue, Jr.is vice president of research and development at Christianity Today International. He may be reached by e-mail at yceditor@yourchurch.net. Previous Special Reports can be found at AOL keyword YC or at www.ChristianityToday.com/cbg/features/report.html.
