Check this website for an organization in your area that publishes a database of funders for your state or region. On the home page, click on "Meet Our Members," then click on "Locate your Regional Association." If your project is local, subscribing to a local grant search database will provide you with better (and probably less expensive) information, rather than investing in a tool that is nationwide.

The Foundation Cooperating Collection

This is a collection of resources located in libraries in key cities and towns around the country. There you will find indexes, databases, books, and articles that will help you identify funders in your area and what they support. Locations are listed at foundationcenter.org.

This site offers a wealth of information on a number of nonprofit management topics, including how to write a grant proposal. You also can sign up for free grant alerts through the website, tailored to meet your interests and geographic area.
