A Tale of Two Breakups
Tricia Brock sought God's strength when relationships ended.
by Todd Hertz
Broken
About three years agoright before going out on a major tourSuperchic[k] singer Tricia Brock experienced her first major breakup. Brokenhearted and shattered for months, all she kept thinking was, I need God to get me through this.
In her weakness, Tricia sought God's strength on that tour in daily quiet times. And God used her weakness to bring her closer to him. "I saw Scripture changing me from the inside out," Tricia says. "In Job, he says the Word is his daily bread. That's what it became for me. I couldn't go on without it."
Stronger Now
Flash forward to just months ago. Tricia went through another tough breakup. Again, it was right before a big tour. But this time was different. "Within about a week, I felt OK with the breakup," Tricia says. "I had this feeling of peace. I just trusted Godbut only because he allowed me go through some tough things to strengthen my faith."
In her desperation, Tricia relied on the Lord during that first breakup. Scripture and prayer became vital. And now, she walks through hard times with more trust. "I know life is full of ups and downs and that God's always there," Tricia says. "It's easy to become hopeless when our hope is based on things that aren't God. Of course those things let us down. But we wouldn't ever feel hopeless if we focused only on God because he doesn't disappoint."
Beauty from Pain
Tricia is thankful that God has used her pain to help others. "Every night of the Beauty from Pain 1.1 tour, I was able to meet someone who was hurting," she says. "I could honestly tell them I've been down a similar road and God never deserted me.
"Because of the pain I've felt, I'm stronger than I've ever been and I'm capable of understanding others' pain more than I ever would have been. God's doing things in me and around meand they may not make sense right now to me, but I trust what he's doing. I'm no longer wallowing in it or saying, "I don't deserve this!" or asking "Why me?" I just realize God's at work in me and thank him for allowing me to care about others' hurting in the middle of my own hurting."

Superchic[k] rocked the Golden Ear Awards this yearincluding winning Best Female Vocalist. Tricia told IYF: "This is huge for me because I strive to be a better singer on every album. It's an amazing compliment. I can't wait to tell my voice coach. Thanks, IYF readers!"
