Road Trip Pit Stops

Try our quick and easy family devotions for all ages.

from Heritage Builders

Off on a family vacation this summer? Here are eight fun, family-friendly restaurants worthy of a detour:

  1. The Owl Drugstore Soda Fountain (Wenatchee, WA) If your travels take you along the majestic Columbia River on U. S. Highway 2, this old-fashioned soda fountain is a must. Great milkshakes made with hard ice cream.

  2. K&R Drive-in (Rice Hill, OR) Between Cottage Grove and Medford on Interstate 5 there is an overlooked ice cream stop that serves Oregon's famous Umpquah dairy products. The cones are the biggest ever.

  3. Pea Soup Anderson (Santa Nella, CA) A great place for a simple supper can be found on Interstate 5 between Sacramento and Los Angeles. Known for its split pea soup, Anderson's has free samples and a fun gift shop.

  4. Rawhide Old West Town (Scottsdale, AZ) If you're headed to the Grand Canyon, hold your horses a little north of Phoenix on Interstate 17. Grab a burger or pizza on Main Street.

  5. Whit's End (Colorado Springs, CO) Kids who listen to Focus on the Family's Adventures in Odyssey will love this old-fashioned soda fountain. It's located on the campus of FOTF's headquarters off Interstate 25 just south of Denver.

  6. Cozy Dog (Springfield, IL) When you're on your way to visit Abraham Lincoln's home, this is the place to have lunch. It's where the corn dog was invented. Springfield is between Chicago and St. Louis on I-55.

  7. The Red Lion (Stockbridge, MA) Someday you'll want to visit the Norman Rockwell museum in his hometown. This old hotel is a prominent part of his famous Main Street painting.

  8. Snappy Lunch (Mt. Airy, NC) The TV town of Mayberry was based on the place where Andy Griffith grew up—a quiet, small town just east of Interstate 77. Sorry, Opie and Aunt Bea won't be there, but try the pork chop sandwich anyway.
