Quick Takes
-
David Neff points to the missing link in the aftermath of J.P. Moreland's paper, "How Evangelicals Became Over-Committed to the Bible and What Can Be Done About It." Neff explains, "A distorted evangelical use of Scripture has resulted from tearing the Bible away from the fabric of the church." He then shows how the church can help evangelicals avoid the problems of rationalism and anti-intellectualism observed by Moreland.
- Typically, discussion about Calvinism in the Southern Baptist Convention sets off fireworks. But an upcoming conference hosted at the LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina seeks mutual understanding instead. Cosponsored by Founders Ministries and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Building Bridges will feature many prominent figures in the growing debate, including Tom Ascol, Malcolm Yarnell, Albert Mohler, and Tom Nettles. Thom Rainer and Ed Stetzer from LifeWay will also lead sessions. With some Southern Baptists worrying Calvinism will split the convention, Building Bridges has a tall task. Perhaps God can do a mighty work in three short days, from November 26 to 28.
Verse for the Fortnight
"And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains."
Matthew 24:6-8
