The Good News in Oil and Acrylic
A missions center becomes a patron of the arts.

Developing-world artists come to OMSC and America knowing that they are bringing the missionary message back to Americans.

"The gospel also comes from 'there' to 'here,' " Bonk says. "A piece of art [from a foreign artist] is part of the giftedness of the church. It brings people back to a recollection of the Good News."

Tony Carnes, based in New York City, is a senior writer for Christianity Today.

ExposingChristianity.com - Everything in Christianity has been taken from religions predating it by hundreds to thousands of years.

Nice to see Protestants catching up with the dignity that Catholics gave art ever since Christians drew symbols on catacomb walls. The Church supported the arts through history, giving us Michelangelo, da Vinci, etc. In Letter To Artists, Pope John Paul II noted the link between art & the dialogue of Holy Scripture. This very day in Rome, Pope Benedict urged rediscovering "the link between beauty, truth & goodness" & praised art inspired by faith. The ancient Church used art as visuals to educate the illiterate & still sees created images as reflections of God's own work & the ultimate reflection of Jesus Christ who revealed himself to be the image of the invisible God. US Bishops called art a gift through which the Holy Spirit speaks, an inspiration for devotion & a visible voice expressing the universal desire for redemption. And some of you think that we Catholics are just worshipping idols.
