Style: Classic country; compare to Joe Nichols, Blake Shelton, and Jason Crabb
Top tracks: "Even When We Do," "Every Saint," "Young Enough to Know Better"
Due to worldwide exposure as a Gaither Vocal Band alum, Guy Penrod's husky tenor has become a Southern gospel staple. But with his solo debut, the down-home powerhouse plans to expand his loyal fan base with a more accessible country sound. Songs like "Pray About Everything" prove there's plenty of "gospel" to go 'round, but Breathe Deep successfully sorts through various life situations without forfeiting the singer's steadfast faith. Topped off with sweet fiddles, warm lap steel, and production by Music City veteran Brent Rowan (Blake Shelton, Julie Roberts), this record should situate Penrod comfortably among his mainstream country contemporaries.
