Style: Heart-rending theatrical pop; compare to Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church
Top Tracks: "If I Walk Away," "Você Existe Em Mim," "Straight To You"
Although Josh Groban's latest album finds him in the studio with an unlikely collaborator—producer Rick Rubin—the results don't deviate from the template that his fans have come to expect from this uber-talented vocalist. If anything, Rubin allows Groban's rich glassy tenor to rise even further above the mix with warm, understated instrumentation. The singer shines even brighter than usual here thanks to his fine choice of original material. His songs balance a world-weary romanticism with some stirring expressions of faith, particularly on a trio of tunes ("Higher Window," "If I Walk Away," and "Love Only Knows") that serve as a centerpiece to this fine album.
