Sexsmith has always deserved to be a marquee pop star—he's got both the hooks and the endorsements, from Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello, to back it up—and on his twelfth album he makes a grab for it, enlisting Michael Buble producer Bob Rock to give his songs a professional sheen. It's a bit much—Rock polishes these country- and folk-tinted pop songs into mid-tempo homogeneity—but nothing can detract from that rich, intoxicating croon, or Sexmisth's typically wonderful lyrics, which locate the divine origins of romantic love ("Heavenly") and see kindness and fidelity as everyday acts of grace ("Miracles").
