Recently featured on the popular teen-geared CW as well as on E!'s Keeping Up with The Kardashians, Debra Arlyn has gained a reputation for being both positive and trendy. While her sound vacillates between soul, jazz, and sugary pop, Arlyn's message on Heartbeat is consistent, a relentless proclamation of God's love in the midst of loneliness, doubt, and spiritual recklessness. The album's strength lies in Arlyn's voice, which features not only range and power, but impressive control. Although her arrangements sometimes skirt redundancy and her lyrics cliché, many listeners will still appreciate her catchy beats and encouraging words.
