An Exclusive Interview with James Cameron
"I think you have the wrong guy!" he admits.

James Cameron is the producer of "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," a Discovery Channel documentary that claims a tomb outside Jerusalem once held the remains of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, a "son of Jesus," and family ...

Why would anybody believe DaVinci Code theology? These guys are out to make a buck and to believe them you have to check your brains at the door. For 2000 years the resurrection has been a central part of Christianity. There were enough witnesses to it back then that no one could dispute it. People believed in it to the extent that cowardly men who ran away and denied their Lord were suddenly willing to speak boldly of his resurrection before the same people that killed Jesus. Later on all the apostles except John gave up their lives rather than deny the resurrection. To not believe in the resurrection means no salvation and an eternity separated from God in Hell. I'll take the real Jesus thank you very much.

Makes the point without arguing....great stuff

Thank you Mr. Olsen!!! Mr. Cameron's "statistical data" is just as accurate as the one you portrayed!!!...and just as silly!!! I will be reading this piece to my Sunday School class!!!

What is the point of this? Cheap shots taken because your magazine isn't bold enough to schedule an interview through proper channels? Please...

The other articles on "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" were interesting and informative, but I do not believe this one made it's point. It attempts to show that we Christians are 'hip' and can do satire with the best of them. However, to me, there was a bit too much 'high and mighty' thrown in, and it also was qutie defensive. I did not find it to be funny at all.

Great! I'm an editorial cartoonist from New Jersey, and here is my thought on the whole "Lost Tomb of Jesus" debate. Check out my cartoon at http://tornoe.blogspot.com

I don't "get" the satire. But I do think "soverpeck" has a good point. I'd read an article of this nature.

Claro, I agree. The foundation of ignorance that assumes to be in the know based on assumption is the height of ignorance. The evidence that the earth is more than 6,000 years old is so enormously questionable that I am amazed that a 21st century American can conclude that all the evidence is in. Saying that Cameron has DNA evidence and the actual submission of DNA evidence will prove to be two separate facts. I’ll remember your comments when we see the shaking foundation of your ignorance.

this is funny. and it's exactly what james cameron did. though it could have been explained a little better on how it relates to how james cameron did it.

I live in Redding. Really. Don't remember hearing about any James Cameron living here but I could be wrong. I work nights half the time so I don't get out much. Unless he hangs out at the Costco or the In-n-Out I probably wouldn't see him if he did live here. Huh? Satire? Oh...never mind. (PS...I really do live in Redding, Ca!) Eric

The tomb of Jesus? THE TOMB OF JESUS? "How do you know it's the tomb of Jesus?" "Cuz the stones say "Jesus" and "Mary" and "Joseph". It's clear as day; Bob's yer uncle." Oh puh-leeze. Science is sooooo reliable. I mean, it was the scientists who told us that the world population would be 14 billion people by 2000, (The Population Bomb, 1968), that we were entering into a new ice age (The Cooling, 1978), that 500,000 people would die because of Chernobyl, (CNN, 1995) when the actual number of deaths attributable to Chernobyl is 4000, (UN 2005), that DDT was too dangerous, but apparently malaria - which has killed upwards of 30 million people in Africa in the 40 years since DDT was banned - is not. Or what about the looming global disaster that was Y2K? Yeah. Scientists and "experts" have sure proven to be trustworthy people.

There is nothing that can shake the foundations of ignorance. Even though with unquestionable evidence that the world isn't 6000years old the ignorants still argue in their ignorance, I can imagine what is going to happen when they do find the tomb of Jesus. Absolutly nothing! Ignorants don't change and even less if they are Americans.

The genre of the piece is satire. Genre a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content Satire 1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn 2 : trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly

This interview must be a hoax because the real James Cameron died in 1837! http://hornswoggled.blogspot.com/2007/03/caretaker-discovers-james-camerons.html

This was not at all what I was expecting, but I LOVE it. Thanks for showing your personality! And, good luck getting a real interview with Mr. Cameron. From what I've seen of his responses on tv, he probably won't provide much insight.

It's a satire, Isaac. That implies humor. ;) Yeah, it's a joke, and an amusing one. James Cameron (the producer) is taking the names on an ossuary (the most important one being a poorly translated possibility) to mean that they must be the actual Biblical figures. He does't take into account their positions in society (or space) at the time, attitudes of the local government, actual TESTAMENTS of what happened in the Bible itself, etc, etc. He just sees the names and immediately assumes that they must be what he wants them to be and that everything is we know is wrong because of that assumption. Using logic like his, one could potentially open up a phone book, find the name "Jesus" (or any other religious figure, say Moses or Mohammed, heck, there's probably a Buddha in there too) in it, and immediately come to the conclusion that said figure has either returned from the grave or has been alive lo unto these many centuries without us knowing, simply the name matches.

Great satire. I linked to it at the NewsBusters.org Web log: http://newsbusters.org/node/11105

I don't often laugh aloud when I read Christianity Today but here's an exception. Your humor and your point are both on target!

soverpeck   Posted: February 28, 2007 1:11 PM
Rather than attacking, the Christian community should be supporting public inquiry into the veracity of Christian belief. William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, JP Moreland could be called upon to do similar interviews and documentaries. Events like this can be a beautiful time for Christ's church if His people would seize the oppurtunity. Calling them liars and satirizing them serves no purpose but to further insulate and innoculate us from effectiveness in furthering His kingdom. Come let us reason together.

Is it a joke or a real thing??

Krupanand from Bangalore India   Posted: February 28, 2007 6:31 AM
I believe in the reusrection of Christ because THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST VINDICATES E-XALTING OF HIS NAME ABOVE EVERY OTHER NAME A-CCURATE FULFILLMENT OF THE SCRIPTURES S-UFFICIENCY & ACCEPTANCE OF HIS SACRIFICE T-RIUMPH OVER THE EVIL FORCES E-TERNAL LIFE & ENABLING POWER TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE R-EASON AND REALITY OF OUR HOPE The greatest Sonrise was over the empty cross and the empty tomb.

Nelson   Posted: February 28, 2007 12:04 AM
Christianity & the Bible stand or fall with the Resurrection. All three - Christianity, the Bible & the Resurrection have withstood 2,000 years of persecution, torture & criticism. It will take more than a bone burial box to knock our faith.

Bean   Posted: February 27, 2007 9:44 PM
Its so easy to discard this that I can't but help to laugh. James Cameron obviously didn’t do his homework. Jesua (Jesus) is the name on his little tomb huh? Well guess what, Jesus was a Jew and his name wasn’t Jesus. His name was Yehoshawa (meaning Joshua). Later the Greeks to separate him from others because his name was so common –as is Mary and Joseph, renamed him “Iesous”. The English name “Jesus,” which later employed the letter “J”. This name “Jesus” commonly used in Christianity today did not exist and would not be spelled with the letter “J” until about 500 years ago. James Cameron is a fool.

Tammy   Posted: February 27, 2007 8:38 PM
Travis, I agree wholeheartedly! Most Christians know what they believe, but have no clue why they believe it. There is more evidence that Christ rose from the dead than for any court case in history. Try beating 500+ eyewitnesses! Lee's book IS amazing. Let me add my recommendations to the list...More Than A Carpenter and I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist. Read them, people. Educate yourselves. Christianity doesn't require checking your brain at the door! 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your MIND.' (Matthew 22:37)

Finding any parts of Jesus body is like landing a spacecraft on the sun. Those who walk in the light, understand that those who walk in darkness think they have the light, of understanding, but if that light be darkness how great is that darkness??? As soon as darkness enters light it will evaporate. So the world stays away from the light. And this is the kind of sight they see in trying to find answers.
