Yancey: 'I'm Okay! Honest'
Author and CT columnist injured in SUV accident.

So many have called to express concern, and a few wild rumors have been floating around, so I thought it would be best to send out an "official" report of my accident on Sunday, February 25. I'm OK! Honest. ...

Glad to see you're okay. Your book 'Disappointment with God' which I read years ago is still, in my mind, one of the most realistic works regarding the true walk with God.

In short " To GOD be the glory for the things he has done. If GOD be for you he ( the protector, the sustainer, the healer) is more than the world against you!!!!! In chapter two I pray you rise even higher and go even further to do only that in which God has intrusted into your hands to do, may his peace and presence continually surround you and your family. AMEN

I have been an avid reader of Philip Yancey since my first book in high school (late 70's) "Where is God when it hurts". I have thanked God for your ministry and your books but never thought to ask Him to continue to support you in other ways until now, for that I am sorry. Now I am a new pastor preaching a sermon series based on the new book on "Prayer" - thanks again...and you are in our prayers too.

Praise God that you are all right. I discovered your books the year after my husband died, and they have been a great deal of help to me. I espeically like the fact that you do not fill your books with platitudes. Your steadfast reliance on Jesus Christ suits me right down to the ground. Keep getting better and better. Martha Watson

Phil What a wonderful story. God is really awesome. As a new Christian I am amazed at how He expresses his love for me each day that I'm gifted with. May He continue to heal your body and bless your life. I've got a feeling that this is the beginning of something even more wonderful between you and our Almighty Creator.

I Praise and thank our GOD you are ok. I learned of the accident from a friend, a recipient of one of your books which I gave her as a birthdaygift. She relayed by text message what her sister who is in the U.S. told her. My wife and I started to pray for your fast recovery even hoping that there was nothing really serious in your situation. The incident kept on recurring in my mind wishing I could read something in the papers here in Metro Manila, Philippines. Unfortunately for me I didn't come across any news item. But GOD is so good that as I started browsing through the "pages" of Christianity Today (today,March 14,2007) I saw this article you wrote. I rejoiced and thank GOD for the miracles HE did for you. Your books have helped me a lot in walk of faith, in knowing our LORD JESUS more, understanding the CHURCH, and how the LORD deals with us. Your "Church : Why Bother" broadened my understanding of why people shy away from CHURCH. And many more from your other books.

I had no idea that you were in an accident! But I am grateful to see that all is well - I am sure there is a book in this experience, somewhere, and I am looking forward to it. Your writings have caused profound changes in my own walk with God, and I am forever thankful to have found "Disappointment With God" so many years ago (along with "The Jesus I Never Knew," etc.)!! May God continue to bless you in your recovery and, TAKE IT EASY.

I too am very glad to hear you are well after that fright. I have read almost all the books you have written and my path has paralleled yours. When I read your words, I feel that here is someone who knows exactly what I am feeling. I am sure this is most common. Thank God you are still here and able to continue writing. I look forward to every new book of yours, as I learn a little more about God and Jesus and how much He loves me. Thank you, and heal well.

So glad you are still with us, Philip, and that it looks that you will have a complete recovery. Thanks for the reminder that life can change in just a few seconds, and to be thankful for our everyday blessings and the people in our lives. You've been to the brink, and found peace and trust. I hope that this realization sustains you in the coming weeks and months as your spinal injury mends.

Mr. Yancey's writing holds the reader. This is no exception. While we, as your reading public, are happy that God didn't take you home, as is your wife and family, I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to be with our Lord now instead of later. It seems that folks who experience near death situations, almost always are thrilled with still being here rather than There. As the apostle Paul said, I would rather be with my Lord, but if He still has work for me here then I will gladly stay,or something to that effect.

Dear Mr Yancey I am so grateful to God for your wonderful deliverance from that unpleasant accident. I pray that God will speed up the healing process and you will soon feel fully fit and well again and able to tackle those last three 14000 footers. My good friend Dave Pope sends his best wishes to you also.

Dear Mr Yancey, By chance, I happened to read about your accident. Thank God that you are OK. Just want to let you know that your book 'where is God, when it hurts most' has helped me see reality a little better. Some of your thoughts have been inspiring to me. Having read a couple of chapters in your book on pain, it gave another glimpse into the truly amazing wonder of His creation. May God bless you and keep you. Gopi

I, too, was in an auto accident in which the car was totaled, and we were helped by stopping Mormons on their way to church. They called for aid, then met us at the hospital, and took us into their home for the night, and took us to the bus station the next morning. Our Christian friend, a fellow passenger, sued us! (Settled out of court.) Your misadventure has given me the opportunity to thank God for your books, in which I learned to look my philosophical/theological questions in the eye, and not blink. I'm glad you are going to be okay.

I have just finished your book ' Disappointment With God ' and it has been life changing. When we heard of your accident, my wife and I started praying with hundreds of others. Your ministry through writing continues to shed light on a God of love and grace. God bless you with a full recovery.

Mr Yancey, Great to hear how God cared for and protected you. My family and I (six of us) were in a serious car accident one year ago. We were hit head on by a car being driven at 70 mph, and for the grace of God we are all doing well. It certainly causes one to think what the alternatives may of been. During these times we can truly see all the blessings God has bestowed on us. Rejoicing with you and your family. PS: I enjoyd your article.

Philip, Thank God for your deliverance from the edge of death. 21 years ago, I had a near-death experience with my heart. Then 45, I had feared death; and though I helped others to face death, I did not know how I would react in the face of it. Through prayer and God's grace, I experienced such a deep sense of peace as I went into surgery, it was like a one-man revival, with Jesus himself being the evangelist. The experience did four things that changed my life: it erased the fear of death; it prepared me to minister to others in a personal way rather than a seminary way; it made me take seriously the stewardship of my body; it deepened my love for my wife, my family – and thus for friend and foes. I trust that your brush with death will impact you in unimaginable ways. Your speaking and writing cannot but be impacted. I will await with great anticipation the word that God will speak through you. May you surprised and blessed through this awful and awesome event. Gary

Thank God, thank God, thank God that you are alright!!! Your journal entry/article is filled with episodes of God's amazing intervention. Get well soon, for I look forward to being blessed by your future works; your books have helped me make sense of and bear some of the most difficult times of my life. May God heal you completely and restore you as soon as He deems fit!

I know that you have received many calls and emails, but I just wanted to add one myself. God has and is continuing to touch my life through you and you writings. I am in the middle of "The Bible Jesus Read" and your insights are inspiring. I am glad you're ok and will continue to pray for your recovery. Thank you again for the blessings from God you bring to us.
