Evel Overcome With Good
Daredevil Knievel's testimony triggers mass baptisms at Crystal Cathedral.

On Palm Sunday, hundreds responded to Robert "Evel" Knievel's testimony by asking to be baptized on the spot at Crystal Cathedral. Speaking alongside the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, Knievel told the congregation ...

A fantastic testimonial! Very rewarding and encouraging that God is at work in such a wonderful way. It is terrific inspiration to all.

Baptism must be by immersion and is for the forgiveness of sins. I do think, however, that andy committment or rededication to Jesus Chriist is good.

Mr. Knievel often came to Spokane for the Western Art Show. I don't know why God lays someone on your heart to pray for, but this is one. The last time I saw Evel he looked so tired. To hear now of his belief is wonderful. So I must keep praying, we all need to - because now comes the hard part for Evel Knievel... learning, grounding in his faith. 'and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you' Mt 28:20a

While I believe in salvation followed by immersion (proclaiming your salvation to the world), I am heartened to hear of Mr. Knievel's conversion and pray that it's true! I hope to meet him face to face in Heaven! I remember watching his stunts as a little girl. What a thrill it would be to meet him. Hats off to him for having the courage to speak publicly and to FINALLY give up the drinking, women, etc. What will power -- How much easier it will be for him with the power of God on his side! And lots of Christian friends and family helping out. God bless. Deb, Sayre, PA

I looked at the Crystal Cathedral Service with Robert Evel Knievel's Testimony and was most impressed. I have been viewing the " HOUR OF POWER" for 30 years and I like " POSITIVE CHRISTIANITY" I have been involved with the " HOUR OF POWER" theatre ministry in another country. This programme has something to offer our world today.

Cool. It would also be nice if Robert Schuller said goodbye to his New Age teachings and endorsements and became a Christian himself: http://www.apologeticsindex.org/s09.html

I was present at this service. It was a powerful and sincere testimony and the Holy Spirit was moving like I have never experienced before. People were moved and convicted because the gospel was presented in a powerful manner. I do agree, however, with the previous comment. The reponse now needs to be nurturing those who have made a commitment by following the governance of the church. Where do we go from here is the question being asked. We continue to preach the simple message of salvation, have altar calls, pray over these people, have laying on of hands, maybe annoint with oil, and provide training and baptism according to the rules of the church. It is the responsibility of the church to know who these people are, instruct them to be part of a commjunity of believers, and walk with them. People respond to the simple message of salvation. Baptism is God's sign and seal. Belief and repentance have to be first.

An alter call would have been a fitting reaction. However, mass baptism was an inappropriate response. The Crystal Cathedral, as a part of The Reformed Church in America comes under the governace of its constitution made up of our liturgy, ecumenical creeds and reformed confessions. Every person ordained as an Elder and Minister of Word and Sacrament in The Reformed Church in America made a vow to "accept the church's order and governace". Our constitution speaks directly to our understanding of the Biblical perspective of the sacraments, and provides a prescription for their proper administration; most of which were completely disregarded. One can understand, due to the spontaneity of the movement of the Spirit, that some of our requirements for baptism were overlooked in our 1st worship service, but for the continued disregard of those requirements in subsequent services and on succeeding Sundays, there in no reasonable justification.

I would like to respond to those who might be inclined to cynicism or skepticism, including myself. What does it matter what we mere humans think? God is Soveriegn. His ways are beyond our ways. He can pour out His Spirit where ever and whenever He chooses. Yes, we have scripture as a guide, inerrant in it's original form. Yet we still see through a glass darkly. I ( a certified CT cynic ) watched the service in awe and humiliation. Isn't it more important that people lives were touched and hopefully forever changed than the so-called form and/or process of the conversion experience? If they were confessing Christ as Saviour and Lord and renouncing sin then there was "nothing hindering" them from baptism. Surely their understanding would have been sufficient from Evel's testinomy. Lastly to emphasize the point, I recall the genuine conversion process of an individual as follows: 1)He was baptized 2)He accepted Christ as Saviour 3)He then experienced convicition for sin

Praise God !!! I love to hear or read testimonies of how God sovereingly does His miraculous thing. To God be the glory now and forever more. What a faith builder.

What wonderful newa about the power of prayer to help convigt sinners.

Ken H Surbaya   Posted: April 23, 2007 10:03 AM
Mr. Knievel's heart pounding testimony was so empowering because it included his confession of sin "… believed in God, but couldn't walk away from the gold and the gambling and the booze and the women." He also evicted the Devil the illegitimate usurper that he is: "I rose up in bed and . . . I said, 'Devil, Devil, you bastard you, get away from me. I cast you out of my life." This brought to mind the first question in the ancient liturgy for baptism so seldom heard today in free churches: "DOST thou renounce the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desires of the same, and the carnal desires of the flesh, so that thou wilt not follow, nor be led by them? Answer. I renounce them all." Mr. Kieneval did, and his public transparency of rejecting Satan helps to explain the impact of his testimony on so many. Might a return to true public confession and renunciation of sin & Satan lessen the number of those who "fall away" after baptism?

Where do I begin? So much to say and so little room. Folks, the world is in a terrible mess. The country is also. God has to move quicker than ever before. Quit trying to disrespect others. "For ALL have sinned and fallen short of God's glory" Remember that? And if God chooses to instantaneously bring people to Him and get them baptized? He will do it. Let's give HIM some credit here. Also-"Judge not that ye not be judged" Remember that?? Are you waiting in line for God to judge you? He will judge all of us whether or not you believe it. Apparently some of you would like to add some more to your own judgement. God loves you anyway. And it's HIS world!!!

Mr.sowhat, I think its great Evel, come to know Christ as lord. And about "How many lives have you saved today"? You better go back and re-read your bible,"WE" don't do the saving Christ Jesus already did it on the Cross. Its just most people don't know it yet !

After 30 years of watching the Schullers and feeling like part of their family, I have not been more moved than this morning. I was partly because of what "Evil" said but I was so impressed with the way Robert A. picked up the ball and ran with it. It was perfect. I felt a change inside too as never before. Tears came. I want a copy of that service.

I saw the program on tv and he appeared to be genuine in his confession of Jesus Christ as having saved him from Sin. Even naming some of them and stating he was no longer a sinner. It didn't appear staged but who knows. There' s so many false prophets these days. I choose to believe it until proven wrong. Thankfully God knows and is keeping record. He's in control and not taken by surprise. I too hope those coming forward were seeking God and not just emotionally stirred. God knows the hearts and knows how to direct them to Christ if they get misled in this search.

I had heard about today's program, April 22, and watched it more than once this morning. It was absolutely thrilling! I am proud of them at the Hour of Power! This was my first church after being away from God for my teens and twenties. I watched it with my baby son on my lap. And my Father watched it two times in a row every Sunday. So to see today what happened was very, very moving and powerful and fantastic and I praise God so much!

The program on April 22 by Hour of Power was one of the most inspirational telecasts that I have ever seen. The testimony of Robert "Evel" Knievel was truly inspired by God. The words spoken were beautiful to hear. I will seek to obtain a copy of this telecast for distribution to others I have been praying for. Thank you Dr. Schuller for listening to your heart.

I could not attend church today due to my husband being ill but after viewing the Hour of Power today (April 22) I did not miss it too much. We attend a Wesleyan church which is very evangilistic and we love it, but today's broadcast of the Hour of Power with Evel Knievel's marvelous and sincere testimony was at least as wonderful and inspirational a service as we have ever attended anywhere. We regularly watch Dr. Schuller Sunday mornings before we go to church and always enjoy the service but today was far and above the best ever. I was deeply moved and inspired in my own walk with the Lord and I praise Him greatly for meeting so many persons at their point of need. May God continue to bless the Hour of Power and may the Holy Spirit continue to be present in a mighty way in this church.

I BELIEVE IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL TESTIMONIES I HAVE EVER SEEN OR HEARD AND IF YOU ARE SO CAUGHT UP IN THE WAY YOU THINK GOD SHOULD MOVE. YOU MAY WANT TO COMPLAIN TO GOD THE FATHER AND THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT AND STOP TRYING TO TEAR DOWN SOMEONES MINISTRY, IF YOU TRY SPENDING A LITTLE MORE TIME IN PRAYER , YOU MIGHT RECOGNIZE A MOVE OF THE SPIRIT

Because you suggested it was a good idea to find a church in the area where I live and attend services I started on Palm Sunday a Christian Church. ( that is the title of it) I am so glad I did and although my mother did not believe in being baptized I am going to do that soon. I am 77 years old and have accepted Jesus and God has given me strengh when my son was killed in Vietnam and my daughter a year later. I have been watching Hour of Power over 10 years now, am a member of the Eagles Club and week after week the sermons and guests have hit any problem I may be having difficulity with right on the head. Thank you so very much. God loves you and so do I. Margie Lucas.
