Jerry Falwell spoke from a biblically-base presupposition that truth can be absolute. That's what got him into trouble with the secularists, who accept absolutes in the field of science, for example, but reject them in the field of religion and faith. Christians, who share Falwell's acceptance of absolute truth, winced on occasion when he took his understanding to some Falwellian extremes, such as the post-9/11 judgement of God statements, but understood where he was coming from and thus cut him a good measure of slack. Non-believers, who reject biblical absolutes, wrote him off as a crazed fanatic for his apparent intolerance. No matter one's persuasion, Falwell will be remembered as someone unafraid of taking a stand. I will personally miss his insights and comments because I understood his heart.

Jesus said, "Love one another."

He was a man we all shall miss increasingly as time passes. It is regretable that the media made such big issues about his "mistakes" and style. He had guts and the right spirit to fight squarely on the face of a brainwashed public that has consistently ignored the RAW truths of the Bible and Christ.

Jesus was known as a man of God by those who rallied around him to receive ministry; so he brought repentance straight to the heart of those whom he loved and who were sinners and whom he never condemned. It is easier to pretend to be a man of God by saying how much you hate immorality in order to force them to change. Even when Jesus spoke of how sin comes from the heart he said it about all sin including malice and bitterness. Malice and bitterness is a very present attitude in those who think their hands are perpetually clean just because they love an "ideal" of Jesus as a harsh moralist. Jesus is far too generous to become emotional about those who sin: He just applies an equal measure of love and law without a touch of malice. How do the religious right-wingers rate on malice towards others? And is that malice a sin like the pharisees malice towards samaritans who had different prophets, scriptures and places of worship to the mainstream Jews. Do Christians hate otherness?

Most of the comments in various places, are all negative and/or filled with hatred for Falwell. Even those who claim to be Christian are attacking him. Shame on them! It's like receiving a gift and despising it because one doesn't like the wrapping. People should judge him for what he gave rather than the way he presented it. If his critics have done greater things than him, let them tell us what they have done... or keep their condemning mouths shut.

His negativism concerning the present-day works of Christ were always distracting and caused many in the evangelical camp to reject his inability to see Christ at work in any of the happenings of our day.

Granted I am not a conservative supporter of the religous right. But it seems to me that all the comments nad articles I have read the last few days on Jerry are nothing more than attempt to get one more lick in on a man who above everything else Loved Jesus. Shame on all of you who have negelcted to mention this.
