Gee GeorgeT. To the extent God gave us everything there is, doesn't that argument take one just about anywhere one wants? For instance, God gave women the ability and free will to choose whether to terminate a pregnancy and the availability of medical technology to safely accomplish just that . . . so man should not take that away. Cool, facile reasoning of this sort could come in handy for all sorts of things.

YES!! Abortion Should Be illegal. Why? What God gives man should no take away.

Devine prerogative and work   Posted: September 09, 2007 2:46 PM
People in Christianity who form policy on abortion need to realize that conception and birth is within the divine prerogative: God decides. We must have nothing to do with people who want to take away the divine right of God to decide who gets knitted in the womb and who gets born and where. Too easily we talk of human rights as if they take precedence over divine majesty and wisdom. Too often we do not pray when reproductive situations cause heartache and worry and tears. Where are the people like Hannah in the bible? A godly view of the fetus being knitted by God doesn't see the unborn as an unfertilized egg that can be removed and disposed of. That fetus quickly and readily becomes a fully fledged sufferer under the human condition and a fully fledged child-of-God when born. It's too easy to artificially stop time and call what God is knitting together a fetus rather than a person. But no one should deny that it is God doing the work in that womb. Otherwise you deny the scriptures.

So . . . call it "liberal" and 'nuff said? Labels may be handy, but they don't pass for analysis, explanation, or argument. One could as well (and some do) say call it a "child" and 'nuff said. Simply characterizing something (like calling a fetus a child) doesn't substitute for analysis. In fact, it can simply complicate or impede analysis by obscuring actual and important differences between two things. A cynic, I suppose, might think that's the aim.

Get Real!!!! This organization has always been liberal in its purpose and action. Christians should open their eyes.

Get real. That's what AI did. A woman is a sentient being who can experience and sense her self as such, pain and pleasure, and time (past, present, and future)--a real person warranting our recognition of her real rights and real expectations of ethical treatment. A fetus--whether one chooses to label it a "child" or not--is simply not such a being, no matter how much hand waving or sermonizing one does. AI operates in the real world and, thankfully, has decided to do what it can to help these real persons protect their rights, unconstrained by the philosophical concerns of those who would treat fetuses and real people alike.

The news in this article is interesting to know, once one teases it out. And the reported reaction of "some evangelical leaders" (I count 2) is predictable. This strikes me as propaganda "reporting", which might be appropriate in an editorial section.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the idea of expanded reproductive freedom around the world, the idea that elective abortion is a contracptive devise is somewhat disheartening.
