Comments on evangelical baggage, imprecatory prayer, and other subjects.

"I'm an evangelical with a capital E. I hesitate to make such a confession, for I am painfully aware of the baggage the label carries. Without wanting to blame Americans for all the problems of the world, ...

Let's see, shalom aleichem, salaam aleikum, or pax vobiscum- of the three which is more correct?

Matt W: PLEASE . These Arabic speaking "christians" must be afraid to use God's name for fear of reprisal. While we are being politically correct the whole world groans waiting for the messiah and it will jump at the wrong guy. This bishop should be given the boot.Read the bible again because it does NOT say Allah in it . The greek aramaic and hebrew words for God are not allah Satans almost perfect counterfiet.I don't think God wants us to use the name of a false god. C'mon lets call a spade a spade

I wonder what Evie was agreeing with. John's comments represent one of the most confusing assortment of contradictory statements, malaproisms, assumptions and assertions I've seen in a while. Kudos, John, for getting so much bang for your buck, as it were. Matt, your comments were insightful and helpful. I wonder how Joel Edwards gets off so easily laying "all the problems of the world" at our feet? Or is he referring to Evangelical problems. It is so easy to just blame us. Or blame our "idiot president". I wonder who the idiot really is? It is not the president.

Joel Edwards first step should be to resign from the Evangelical Alliance, seeing how he is hesitating to call himself one because of shame. Then he should do a little study of history. I am not defending all that the United States has done, but what I am most ashamed of as an American is that my government and many citizens have stooped to do the same things we decried in others. This is a long shot from being the cause of most problems. Mr. Edwards is as much as saying that if we had erased the United States from the world, then we would have less than 50% of the problems we do. The fact that such a man has reached a position of leadership scares me.

I totally agree with John. Especially the "wake up people" part.

John: While "Hitler" is not a term that anybody uses for "God," "Allah" is a term that not only Muslims, but also Arabic-speaking Christians use for "God." "Allah" meant "God" long before the origination of Islam 1400 years ago. Also, have you spent time in the Middle East? I lived there for a short period, and never once did anyone threaten to kill me or harm me. In fact, leaders from a local mosque came to my apartment to invite me and two other Christians to join them at their mosque. This is only one example of peaceful gestures extended to me. Yes, they were trying to convert me to Islam, but never once was force even a question. Assuming that all Muslims will kill you given the chance is like assuming that I must be a member of the KKK because I am white. All in all, it's a ridiculous statement that shows no real understanding or knowledge.

"Hitler" is a very beautiful word for God. Shouldn't we say from now on, we will name God "Hitler"? Wake up people, notwithstanding our idiot President's misadventure in Iraq, and in some ways BECAUSE of it, we are at war with Islam, or more accurately, they are at war with us. Just like Churchill said of the Germans, the Muslim is either at your throat or under your heel. Germany and Japan changed to modern Western democracies because we crushed them thoroughly. That may be what we have to do in the Middle East as well, but never, for a minute, let your guard down, these people would kill you as quickly as they could spit given the means and the opportunity.
