'These Guys Are Really Screwed Up'
And the Samson Society is sort of proud of it.

Eight Christian men gather for a barbecue around a fire pit on a crisp November evening in Franklin, Tennessee. While conversation may touch on baseball, country music, or theology, it will certainly ...

I live in Michiagan but have attended Samson meetings with my Dad in Franklin, TN where he lives. This group of men have changed my life in the few times I meet with them. I have been on a couple of the retreats with them too, WOW. What they accomplish is amazing.

I went to a Workshop called Every Man's Battle Workshop and felt that it was very unbiblical and unhelpful. Accountability groups based on the "recovery" movement are not the answer. I learned the hard way. See my articles on this subject at http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=J_Koos_Vanderspek

I've a long time friend with an "issue", and who has been ostracised now he's been caught out in it. He's been railroaded into a 12 step program...but I knew when I read the first page of his booklet it was doomed to failure. "Hi, my name is George and I'm a ________ addict". WRONG!!!! This lot seems to have it closer to right. "Hi, my name is George and I'm a son of the Living God". The Scriptures state plainly that "when we see Him we will BE LIKE Him". Look at your sin, focus upon it, and it will never be got rid of. Focus on He by whom we are made clean, and where will you finish? I'll be telling my friend of this organisation. His 12 steps are not leading him to the purity and freedom he desires. Never will. Cannot. bankrupt from the start. Wrong emphasis.

This is the great unmentionable of the church yet we live in a society that is soaked with sexual messages. No man can be free of the temptation and pull. God is the only power that can give men the power to overcome....In no other area of american life is the Christian male so isolated. Drugs, alcohol, even pro abortion is more open to concession than this in the eyes of the church, yet this is the most continual temptation we face.

Interesting set of articles. It would have been good to focus more on the problems caused by the addiction rather than so much on the addiction itself. Also, the name "Samson Society" seems unfortunate because it points to a narrative of lives ending in destruction via hubris and desire rather than lives restored and renewed in Jesus Christ.
