Seventy percent of American men ages 1834 view Internet pornography once a month. This shocking fact is one of many that CT consulting editor John W. Kennedy found during his research for this month's ...
Great article but I also believe that women are maybe even more so involved in porn now. Chat rooms are filled with men and women who are seeking some sort of attention...the lady seeks a relationship to fill a void and the man seeks visual "aid". "The Drug of the New Millineum" is a book clarifying that there is a chemical in the brain that once porn is viewed, the drive is there to crave more. Women want to please men to get the "relationship" and their "emotional" needs met. So, many women may view porn with men in some chat rooms or they themselves may "entertain" the man. It truly is a battle of the mind!

I was thrilled to see this article, christians need to take a stand, my marriage began to "end" 4 years ago when my husband demanded his own screen name , I was never allowed to know what he was doing on the computer , we tip toed around in the evening because he had to go to bed early to be on the internet at 4 in the morning, I believe he was into Porn which his credit card statements showed it was true. He is also addicted to presrip pain meds bought on the internet. Be accountable to someone save your marriage, mine is officially over.

Check out the New York Times article: "Erotica Inc. -- A special report." from October 23, 2000. 7.5 years have passed since it was published and things haven't changed for the better. Just type in Erotica Inc. on Google. As "Deep Throat" advised Woodward and Bernstein: "Follow the money."

I have struggled with sexual addiction since I was 10. It took me almost 25 years to finally admit to the problem. Almost 60% of men in the church struggle with it and 37% of pastors. I belong to one of the nations leading Christian programs. www.harvestusa.org (.com) My journey has been a long one. What I found most frustrating is that most churches don't want to deal with it. It is the "hidden sin" both on a personal and corporate level that holds churches back. Being opened about it cost me a call to the pulpit.
I refuse to live in the darkness and have found that being opened about it has illuminated the true authenticity of the churches we worship in. So many pastors have kept this form of sin hidden from their congregations or when they are called to serve.

"The thing that struck me the most in talking with these men is that I found an honesty rarely apparent in the church," John told me. "These guys are real. They are transparent, honest, no bull, no plastic smiles."
As a 27 year member of AA compared to 40+ years in Churches, "total honesty" has no place in the Church. Rather ironic. God knows the truth, but the "rightous" can't handle it.
I've been raising boys for 37 years. I don't know how the "male" it to be extracted from them, or me.
I'm probably off topic, but with my wife working in a Procecutors Office, and 6000+ hours listening to people talk about their lives in AA meetings, makes reality can be very overwelming. If we didn't have all those sinners to point at, no one could see how holy we are.

The Steps to Freedom in Christ guide by Neil Anderson is a great resource to help resolve conflicts and break free from addictions of any kind that a man has.

Thanks for keeping these concerns before us! As a long-time parish priest, spiritual director and former seminary professor, I can attest to the severity of the problems recounted in all the articles of this issue, exacerbated by the accessibility of the internet. At every level of the church, people are struggling to make positive connections between Christian Spirituality and Human Sexuality; the past has not helped with its pogroms, the present is beset by acrimonious voices on all sides (and there are many!) of the sexual "hot button" issues, and the future will only be brighter if, as your articles imply, we invite the vulnerable into the healing light of Christ. For years I've heard defensiveness from all camps: "We/I don't need sexual healing, we/I need sexual liberation!" Your articles further expose where this line has brought us! If the Christian community/church is to have any redemptive impact, we must all "come out from the shadows and into the glorious light of Christ!
