Speaker Pelosi's Bible, "how it is" with drug dealers, Ted Turner's turn, and other recent remarks.

"The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.'"Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. ...

Far from being a non-existent verse in Isaiah, the line used by Nancy Pelosi is a very faithful paraphrase of the definition of true fasting as found in Chapter 58 of the same Book. Who is at fault for discrediting a national leader in tune with God's word: CT or Ted Olsen?

Just wondering, but if worship is what we do for love of God; and we are called by God to be stewards of creation, then ministering to creation is an act of worship. You could paraphrase that from the start of Genesis. Still think the McCain quote the funniest. Could be anti-abortion and anti-anti-abortion, if you're anti anti anything then you're for everything. Always on your side and on their side and on everybody's side unless your side happens to be anti anybody. lol

Regarding Pelosi's comment: So is bowing before a Golden calf. As a Christian I much prefer carefully researched pandering. Back to the drawing board for she and her staff. Regarding McCain's comment: Uh, what about anti-fascism remarks? He is effectively offering an anti-anti-anything remark while condemning it at the same time. That's efficient!

This is an unfair jab at Pelosi. It would be quite easy to justify her comments based on Isaiah 58. From the quote used here, it's not clear she's claiming to directly quote the Bible; but instead it looks like she's citing a general principle derived from Isaiah 58: “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?

Thanks for the belly laugh! McCain's condemnation of remarks that are anti-anything is priceless. Almost as much fun as watching people who repudiated Kennedy last week falling all over themselves to love him this week. Nothing rehabilitates a man's image so fast as brain cancer...

Leader Pelosi's remarks seem pandering to me. One of the things I have learned as a pastor is to double check my quotes and to ID the source positively. Leader Pelosi does not seem to have done her basic home work on this Bible "quote." In these modern times of computer searches, Google and LEXIS/NEXIS, on-line Bibles and powerful Bible programs, it would have taken her staff all of five minutes to know that her words do no appear in any translation of the Bible. While Adam and Eve were the first gardeners of God's creation, we are not to be subjects of the earth but rather keepers of God's handiwork. Purhaps her quote came from a Mishna on Isaiah rather than the Bible itself?

The CT editorial staff should correct itself, Nancy Pelosi is a member of the House of Representatives, not a U.S. Senator. Unless there was a recent special election I haven't heard about. It's possible that she borrowed this quote from another Democratic senator who is less than familiar with biblical text.
