Taking Slackers to Task
Teen twins Alex and Brett Harris call their peers to something more.

When twin brothers Alex and Brett Harris were 16, they started a blog to encourage their peers not to waste their teen years but to instead "do hard things." Since then, the 19-year-old brothers have ...

"But since these guys are both attending Patrick Henry College I can't help wonder if they have a hidden political agenda." Would you say they had a hidden political agenda if they went to a liberal school like UNC or Cal?

I have definitely been positively influenced by the work these godly young men started. Their book gave me a vital kick in the pants... "Do Hard Things" helped me realize how complacent I had become, and what I could do to change. Alex and Brett are great guys, and I believe that they are truly seeking the paths God set for them. All of the articles and stories I have read from them have spoken to me in a deeply-moving way. These boys are thoughtful and understanding, and it's not just show. They have put a lot of incredibly hard work and prayer into furthering the cause of the Rebelution. Teens from all over the world have benefited from the call God put in their hearts, and I'm wonderfully grateful to be part of this generation of rebelutionaries. No matter who becomes president of our country, or what issues they support - and Alex and Brett know this - God is behind it all. We can trust his plan for everything... There's nothing he's left out.

Oh Well, we could debate idealism all day but we have to get real at some stage and the reality is that abortion will only stop when the church has crashed through the gates of hell positioned in its own back yard and so frees society from the trap of the eternal Spring Queen whose fertility and lust is more important than hard work and a sincere soul. These values do not come from legislating against abortion but from the love that people and God pours over people making them want to be godly. Jesus taught us to beware of those who would cast the first stone without first thinking whether or not they are without sin. Why? Because by entering the circle of sex versus severity you have already succumbed to the pull of hell and are sucked into its vortex. Then, as a consequence the women and young men of the world will escape you by engaging in sex to relieve themselves of the boredom you have created in life and so they will get pregnant and have abortions. And so the circle continues.

In reply to "t."s comment I submit this: Obama winning, in itself, would show that the US is a country still willing to viciously kill its own offspring even when half way out of the womb and able to survive without ANY help from the mother's body specifically! The Victory of God's own grace & His Spirit that we need to see is the end of the utterly & completely ungodly cruel history of infanticide thinly vailed as partial birth abortion. If you have been paying attention to the facts you know that multiple thousands of souls more have suffered thru legal abortion than ever lived in slavery of modern history. And I say this even as a desendant of slaves myself. Please, shouldn't we care most about the most vulnerable of all humans in this world?

Although I commend the young peoples' guts, they assume the fire of youth means automatically that they have Jeremiah's mantle for themselves. This shows their immaturity and is easy to contrast with Jeremiah who was very very brave. Have they read Jeremiah and Lamentations? Jeremiah was a very thoughtful and deep individual not a gung ho rebel. Just because they have the get up and go and the guts to rave around does not mean they would be as brave or emotional or godly or generous as Jeremiah. My first bit of advice to them is that they should not hang heaven on a couple of policy points in their right-wing agenda. What about Obama representing the end of the utterly and completely ungodly and cruel history of racism and slavery? Obama winning, in itself, would show the victory of God's own grace and the Spirit in a country like America.

I find the comments on abortion fascinating. Surely everyone recognizes that Obama is running for president, in the executive branch. He will not serve in the legislative or judicial branch of government if he is elected president. He certainly will have influence, but he will not determine Supreme Court ruling, just as Republican President Richard Nixon did not determine the Roe vs. Wade ruling in January 1973. He had been president since 1969 and had appointed Chief Justice Burger -- the same one who concurred with the Supreme Court's decision. Check the facts, understand our nation's system of government, recognize your own rights and responsibilities as citizens, and then make your voice heard.

Here's what concerns me. If these guys are about motivating teens in general regardless of their political background then that's absolutely fine in my book. But since these guys are both attending Patrick Henry College I can't help wonder if they have a hidden political agenda. I guess the Religious Right need new blood and these guys are up to the task if my guess is right.

Erin I think you're missing the point. I guess 'slacker' means anyone who recognises themself as one. You can be a slacker with a priviledged background or a difficult one. Like they said, its about doing the hard things for you, not anyone else. Heaven forbid you hold up the mirror and see yourself!

Who are "Slackers"? Are they referring to teens? Are they referring to people with lower expectations or opportunities such as themselves? Are they referring to public-schooled students? Are they referring to non-believers? The title "Taking Slackers to Task" seems derogatory.
