Architect of Religious Right Dies
Paul Weyrich, who co-founded the Moral Majority with Jerry Falwell in 1979, died this morning.

Paul Weyrich, a man who worked away from the limelight to galvanize conservative Christian political advocacy, died Thursday.

Paul Weyrich is to be honored for his stand for conservative values. I am thankful for his life. Philadelphia, PA Bob Durham December 19, 2008

Even though I agree with many of Falwell's and Weyrich's views (I did disagree with their views on women), I think that by taking the emphasis off spreading the Gospel and putting it on politics, they discredited Christians and gave the impression that all Christians are knee-jerk extremists, as many still see us today. It's going to take us a while to recover, but we can if we stick to spreading the Good News.

The deaths of Falwell and Weyrich seem symbolic of the ending of an era. Much of what they stood for was right but not always the way they went about it. Blinded by Might by Cal Thomas and Ed Dobson, both ex-moral majority insiders, sheds light on this paradox.

@ Jeff. Way to spit on the dead. "multiple millions"? As opposed to "millions"? And yes, the Bible condemns homosexuality as immoral and unhealthy. If you have a problem with that, take it up with the Lord.

Sounds cold I know but Paul Weyrich will not be missed by multiple millions of citizens in the US. Especially those of us who have felt the slap of discrimination, the left hand of fellowship by many in church and fear based propositions starting with FL Prop 6 on to Prop 8 in CA. The Moral majority has proven that it is neither moral nor a majority.

In light of the passing of Falwell, D James Kennedy and now Weyrich and do to the fact that many of the leaders of the religious right who are now alive are getting along in years one has to wonder who will take their place once they are gone?
