Evolve or Die
Battlestar Galactica: New life impossible without death.

Evolve or die—that is humanity's dilemma as Battlestar Galactica enters its final season. It's a familiar concept to those who devoured Eckhart Tolle's Oprah-baptized The New Earth, a compelling, ...

What does Battlstar Glaticia have to do with Christianity.

Battlestar Galactica's a fantastic show! It's going to be interesting to see how it ends.

Uh, John, yes. It's definitely not your typical "feel-good" show and a bit dark at times. However, as mentioned, if one likes to ponder questions and think about themes, then it may be for you. I watched the initial 2 seasons and missed part of the third. I'd like to pick it back up where I left off and follow it to the end. Maybe on DVD when it comes out.

Interesting observations. I look forward to the new season.

BSG is one of the best written, consistently high quality TV shows ever produced. I have to constantly remind myself the characters are living in a space opera. Regardless of the Sci Fi trappings, it does not shy away from major issues of the day (ie. election-rigging, homosexuality, crimes against humanity, loyalty, and the fragility of relationships), nor are there any easy, Hollywood endings to relieve the week to week tension. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but then, sometimes that's also life. But I also appreciate the deep thread of spirituality that runs through the show. It is intriguing that it's the artificial humans ("the Cylons") who worship the "One True God," versus the Humans' worship of multiple "gods." It is indeed refreshing to find a television action series that even addresses God and worship at all, and will be very interesting to see how this issue (among many others) is finally resolved as the series winds to an end.

Thanks for writing about one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made. CT should provide more coverage of sci-fi and the religious dimentions it often includes. For instance, the Ori story arc in the last seasons of _Stargate: SG-1_ was clearly a critique of the biblical beliefs of the "Religious Right," from a biblical sounding but false Book of Origins (creationism?) to "priors" with staffs that were used ala Moses to demonstrate the Ori's power.

I'm another Battlestar Galactica fan. I love the technology, the storyline, and the characterizations. I'm also intrigued by the show's theology, even though they've got a screwed-up theology--at least they do provide us with very thought-provoking shows! But some common themes that I find threading its way throughout the series is the question of duty vs. relationship; the question of how a democracy can survive in the face of an existential threat from an enemy bent on one's complete destruction, and of course the whole question about God.

Up there with the Shield (now cancelled), this is the best drama on television. Thought provoking, full of philosophy and questions about God (sometimes not the correct questions), this show has it all... great cast!

It's certainly a spoiler if you are in Australia! We have to wait until it appears on DVD.

Excellent insights. I love this show because of its deeper significance. I don't think this was a spoiler (and I'm very anal about spoilers).

Lol yes John some of us watch it. I watched the original when it was on and always wished it wasn't so cheesy. This version is how it was meant to be. It's dark, edgy and does not supply happy endings just for the sake of doing so. But in all of that there is hope, love and triumph. Pretty much like life. Sometimes life sucks and kicks you after your down. And sometimes it is the most awesome thing possible. Your perspective depends on where you heart is. I am sad to see this last season.

Does anybody actually watch this show?

Interesting article. However, in the future, should there be spoilers in an article, I'd hope that it could be clearly delineated - especially if it's for the current season. Thanks!
