Religion is for the weak and ignorant.

Bob Dylan is my hero. Though I wish his religious kick had never happened.

I heard "Gotta Serve Somebody" the other day on a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal radio station I listen to regularly. I was surprised, I haven't heard the song in years. I own the album, and used to play it a lot back years ago, but I haven't played it in years. I still recognized it immediately. It is still a great song after all these years, both words and music. How many songs from 1979 (remember Disco, anyone??) still sound as great all these years later???? Good stuff, Mr. Dylan. Well done!

Aren't three albums enough to convince anyone that it was a real and enduring conversion, not a phase of a career or a life? The thread of faith continues today in his art, and that in itself is a might testimony of the power of the Holy Spirit operating in Bob Dylan.

As to whether Dylan's conversion was sincere, one just needs to listen to the LP's Slow Train Coming and SAVED! Those songs are spirit-filled, and just as current today as they were 30 years ago. Dylan doesn't get (or take) credit for it, but was at the forefront of the Christian rock movement. I saw him in 1980 and half of of the audience would boo and mumble, and the other half would raise their hands in praise. He also preached the word in between songs. As a matter of fact Dylan, on his current tour in Europe, kicks off the set at some shows with Gotta Serve Somebody. Some of the words are changed but the message is the same. Is he sincere? "You either got faith or you got unbelief"

Obviously Bob was influenced by his beloved wife, Sara. She is known to be a born again Christian. And they were still married during that period of his life.
