What You Need to Know about David Wilkerson's 'Urgent Message'
How people are responding to his warning of riots, fires, and economic collapse in NYC.

What did David Wilkerson say that got so many people talking?

On March 7, evangelist David Wilkerson posted an "urgent message" to his blog, ministry website, and mailing list. It began:

I am compelled ...

Christianity Today hedged its bet, unlike David Wilkerson who sincerely passed along exactly what he received. Typically, I pay very little attention to modern day prophets with "a word from the Lord." But Pastor Wilkerson has stood the test of a good man and a true prophet for many decades. In 1973 or 1974 I read The Vision and thought, "O no, Lord! This just can't be true." But within six months, the pouring out of evil in America came to pass point by point as Wilkerson had prophesied. Now, what he foresees for the New York City area seems to be more reasonable than startling. Even with our eyes of flesh, we can see many avenues by which these fires could come to pass, if we keep up with the daily news

This is a man of G-d who has been telling people this for years and now it is here, these fools who mock the word of G-d need to listen. Jesus will be here soon and we may be gone before this hits and the food stored up will be for those who are left behind. As for Piper he should mind his own business and come to the conclusion that not only is pastor Wilkerson sticking with the Bible this word is sticking with the bible and warning those luke warm christians get right with Jesus. I hope someone tells piper to stay out of the bars and since piper thinks drinking beer is good christian fellowship he (john piper) should himself stick with the bible and repent!

I was actually visiting NYC the week before 9/11 and it is true that the church was in fervent prayer for several weeks before the towers fell. We visit TSC each time we are in the city because we love the way God is honored and worshipped there. They weren't even sure why, but they were being obedient to pray and listen to God. I can tell you honestly that whatever was going on in that church before 9/11 was real and it was of God. By the way, everyone also thought Noah was crazy for all those years he was building the ark!

The role of Biblical prophets is not just to predict an event...but to call God's people to repentance, and a return to His law and way. II Kings 17:13....Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. David Wilkerson has always urged people to repent...but he believes as does most Christianity, that the law of Moses has been done away with. That is error, and we are paying for our error.

I'll believe it when the Catholic's say the end is near, these so called profits are always saying the end is here and their always wrong.

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE IN OUR NATION, BE AWARE , FOR THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR ANY OF US TO HAVE A CRITICAL SPIRIT AGAINST PASTOR WILKERSEN. INSTEAD IT IS TIME FOR THIS NATION TO GET TOGETHER AND PRAY AND ASK GOD FOR HIS MERCY. GOD IS BEEN VERY MERCIFUL TO ALL OF US, AND YET WE STILL IN TOTAL DISOBIDIENCE TO HIS WORD. WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE IS AND THERE IS GOING TO BE A JUDGEMENT FROM GOD AGAINST THIS NATION...WE STILL DO NOT GET IT!! AFTER 911 AMERICA CRIED TO GOD AND HE ANSWERED, YET, AMERICA TURNED BACK TO HER OLD WICKED WAYS. GOD IS NOT DONE WITH AMERICA YET! THIS PASTOR IS GIVING ALL OF US A WARNING, WHAT DO YOU DO? MOCK HIM, MAKE FUN OF HIM, CALL HIM A LIAR AND A FALSE PROPHET...YOU KNOW THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE WORLD DID TO NOAH AND GUESS WHAT...YOU ALL KNOW THE ANSWER. PLEASE STOP!! JUST "THANK YOU" IF THE PROPHECY COMES TO PASS, WE WERE READY, THAT'S GOOD, IF NOT, COUNT IT A BLESSING TO HAVE EXTRA FOOD YOUR FAMILY AND THOSE IN NEED. GOD HAVE MERCY!

Why wasn't he discredited when he made his false prophecies in the 1970s?? Pentecostalism is such a silly side show.

The Word says to "hearken unto the Word of the Lord"......the Lord has been speaking to my church regarding storage of food. We have been doing this for several months now. Either you can be prepared, or not. It is your choice. I choose to be prepared.

Whether you believe in prophesy or not, I wonder how the following comment, "Check your thorazine, because you're probably hallucinating," fulfills the injunction in Col 4:6 where it states: Be gracious in your speech,. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out. The Message

It is impossible to take this seriously.

I personally feel that some Prophets are also not all on the up and up and from a fleshly perspective we do not want to believe that God would allow things David has talked about to happen. God will change his wrath if we pray and change our ways, this could very well be a reason why some of his previous prophecies did not occur as stated. I am not spiritual enough to have the discernment about the prophecies he has given. I feel if we as individuals are in doubt that we should seek God in prayer and ask for his guidance.

He had mentioned many times that GOD will speak to each of us. We will have to find GOD's confirmation in our own hearts. I believe the world has no gotten any better. The signs are there of HIS comming, we need to mostly prepare our minds, hearts and apply HIS word during these times. Like Noah crying out to the world repent, we better repent. Remember, everyone laughed at Noah, not many believed him. So are we in the times, when we dont believe the time is near? Let GOD speak to us in the way HE sees fit. GOD Bless you all

Tina   Posted: March 25, 2009 1:28 AM
WE need to be very careful not to be mocking. WE need to examine ourselves before the Lord and continually seek His face! Too many of God's people are deceived and don't want to face reality, wake up! God is speaking to all of us! As true children of God, let's be true disciples, be ready and get others ready to spend eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ!

Good balance. I'm skeptical of this prophecy. I am particularly skeptical of a "prophet" whose prophecies have failed to come true. Isn't that the sign of a FALSE prophet?

Gerald L. Heikes   Posted: March 23, 2009 7:37 PM
Mr. Wilkerson's prophecy is absolutely correct. It is a time of wheat field harvest, God is going to seperating the sheep and goats and He (God) has already started. It's not an opinion but a fact. Fear tactic's are a socialist virtue, and Mr. Wilkerson does'nt need the money. The question is who will you serve? If you claim to be a christian and think there won''t be a fiery trial before the rapture you are sadly mistaken. It's not fear, but love, for your faith will be tried.

Alreadydecided   Posted: March 23, 2009 6:20 PM
For those who think light of this, you need to hear "The Vision". I did back in the early 70s & again just recently. I can't find one item in "The Vision" that has not come to pass. About 37 years ago it was impossible to understand how all those things would happen. But now, hearing it again and looking back - who could ever have imagined? Don't harden your hearts.

Rose   Posted: March 23, 2009 2:07 PM
Yes, God does speak to His people, but we are all fallible. David Wilkerson may have heard God correctly, may have heard only part correctly, or may not have heard at all and may be his own fear. I think, since even governmnet officials are predicting a major terrorist attack forthcoming, it certainly can't hurt to stock up on supplies a little. And perhaps this prophecy just has too much fear/sensationalizing written into it. I find that when God give us a word, even about calamity, there is no fear in it, but peace. Humbly go about preparing for what may eventually happen, but not with the "end of the world urgency" this prophecy seems to represent.

Darren   Posted: March 23, 2009 9:38 AM
Hosea and Isaiah prophecied many decades before Israel went into captivity. Wilkerson prophesied in the 70s and after 9/11 was asked was this a fulfillment of what he saw, he said no. Now he says it's imminent. He's not the only either, scores of even secular watchmen say the same thing, the ones who predicted the current global financial crisis, yet are marginalised by the feel-good, tell no bad news media. Its the same in Christian circles. I see why I rarely read CT, the level of discernment and spirituality is so low, it is so so sad.

Gary has a good point.

Lets look at other things he has said in the past...have any of his prophetic words happened? One of his eariier books was written in 1973. 36 years later lets see what has happened.... Bankruptcies of Major Corporations “I believe we are going to witness the bankruptcies of some of this nations major and most popular corporations. I see tremendous difficulty arising for credit corporations. There are going to be many people unable to pay off their heavy obligations to major credit card companies, causing near chaos. Thousands of small businesses will also be forced into bankruptcies.” David Wilkerson, “The Vision & Beyond” i.e. Lehman Bros., Washington Mutual, IndyMac Bancorp, Peanut Corporation of America, Sharper Image, Linens ‘N Things, Circuit City, etc. Credit Unions With $57 Billion in Assets Seized; 3 Banks Fail , Bloomberg, 3/21/09 check this blog for 36 more issues of relevance... http://letscompare.blogspot.com/

I have been reading David Wilkerson's books and Newsletters for the 20 plus years that I have been a Christian, have followed his multiple ministries and noted his faithful stewardship with what he's been entrusted with, and have always been encouraged and exhorted in my walk with the Lord so much!! I believe he is truly a Watchman for the Lord (he never claims to be a Prophet) and his warnings are always balanced with words of encouragement. And as Christa noted above - timing isn't always what we may expect. Personally, after reading and sharing his recent "Warning" with others, and acknowledging that our nation IS way overdue for judgment, I thanked him for his warning and am preparing, both practically and spiritually. If the timing is longer than I anticipate, nothing will be wasted - neither food nor time spent in prayer and the Word!

Does it hurt to keep a thirty day supply of food and water on hand for emergencies? Whether Pastor Wilkerson's prophecy is true or not, it always pays to be prepared. If he is right, we may survive a catasrope, and if not we could survive a possible terrorist attack. Our main objective should be focus on the reality of spiritual life through salvation and eternal life in Christ Jesus. Before destroying Sodom and surrounding cities God said (paraphrased) "Shall we show Abraham what we are going to do? He is our friend". God has and is showing many of His people what is coming soon in these last days. Let us all PAY ATTENTION to these warnings.

Christa   Posted: March 20, 2009 5:15 PM
Many prophesies in the Bible did not come to pass for hundreds of years. Many of Wilkerson's warnings are now coming to be (stock market crash and impending economic woes). People may have felt they should have happened within a few days or months of him giving the warnings but look how long Abraham had to wait for the Messiah. Be thankful the Lord is giving time for people to heed his warnings. Noah worked on the ark for 100 years listening to people mock him, but in the end, the rain came and the doors on the ark were sealed.

Steve Hill   Posted: March 20, 2009 5:11 PM
David Wilkerson should be considered as a spiritual father to this nation. His words have always been direct. We need that. America has been steadily sliding and here we have a father who actually cares. He has nothing to gain from these prophetic words. His prominent place in church history is firmly established. America needs a thorough spiritual cleansing. Our lack of remorse over sin, fear of offending others and mockery of basic Christian doctrine has left us hanging over a cliff. Thank God for the remnant who reach down as true shepherds to pull us back to safety.

I agree with the cautionary tone of this article (good heavens - I'm actually agreeing with John Piper!). Wilkerson says we're under God's judgement, but the evils (and there are good things too) going on in the US today are nothing compared with what other countries did over the centuries, so I'm not one to run around saying that the sky is falling.
