Saguaro Seminar Stays with Obama
Obama continually builds relationships, ideas and skills found from a Harvard seminar on social capital.

If he wasn't the most obscure person in the room, Barack Obama was close: a young, first-term state senator with few connections outside of Chicago.

"When people went around the room and said who they ...

Obama makes me laugh.

Mac- He's not now and never has been a Muslim - but, so what if he was? He is the President of the United States of America. I am pleased for this article exploring the roots of Obama's strategies. The road is going to be rocky, no doubt about that, but, he does seem to understand that the United States needs to be, and be seen as, something other than the largest purveyor of weapons in the world. Let us thank God that we may have a future yet.

Bill C, I have reached the conclusion that fundamentalists simply do not have any credibility with anyone outside their ranks and furthermore they do not care about this. Anyone who thinks differently or says something that contradicts what their authority figures tell them to believe is demonized as a godless liberal member of "the left". If you want an example of this tune into Moody Radio in the mornings or listen to Janet Parshall. I am impressed with Obama too, but I disagree with him on issues of health care reform (taking single payer off the table) and the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan (when are we going to really leave either one of these countries). I have to laugh when people paint Obama and democrats and members of "the far left"....

I'm not sure how one would conclude that Pres Obama is a "God-fearing man." He seems to flashe his claim of Christianity only when politically expedient. If he is such a devout believer, why does he give no money to his half brother who lives in a Kenyan slum? During the Democrat convention he declared, "It's that fundamental belief — I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper — that makes this country work." Apparently his words and actions are thoroughly disconnected. He is a master manipulator, but there is much reason to doubt his integrity.

With comments such as those proffered by Geoff Adams, it's a wonder that fundamentalists have any credibility with anyone outside their ranks. I disagree with Obama's stance on several points, but at the same time, admire his ability to develop a common perspective that can work toward common ends by helping secularists and evangelicals (of which I am one) find their common ground (e.g., let's find ways to eliminate the reasons for abortions). I am an American living abroad and am impressed with Obama's ability to bring hope to the world, not just the US. He has accomplished more in a few months to restore the world's positive feelings toward the US than any president in my memory (and that goes back to Eisenhower)! With him as President, I am not ashamed to admit that I am an American citizen.

I am a Christ-follower who is encouraged by Obama's attempts to bring disparate views to the table to talk and find common ground. There is so much hatred being fed by talk radio and other media, it is refreshing and I am grateful to God for a man with humility, and a desire to show respect to all those who God has made, not just those who agree with me. We have friends around the world with new-found respect for our country because we no longer have a cocky, arrogant president eager to send our children to war, but a thoughtful, intelligent, God-fearing man who shows some humility and respect for others w/o adopting a "my country right or wrong" attitude all the time. As a pastor I am too often embarrassed by those who claim to be Christian, but seem to be reading from a different Bible than mine. Jesus was misunderstood for not coming to seek revenge, or political power, but to love and recognize those who were the most marginalized and hated by religious leaders.

I hope that the people who disagree so deeply and disparagingly with Obama - as the writers above - remember to pray FOR their leaders so that peace and social well-being can be increased - as Paul advised. Personally, I am very impressed with your new President, and laud his ability to both listen to seek out disparate opinions and seek call America back to its Biblical roots.

For those who are doomed to repeat the past, this is the candidate that is not only for abortion but is getting rid of any obstacles hindering funding aborion overseas with our tax dollars, along with our tax dollars funding Planned Parenthood, and is against the marriage amendment between one-man, one woman. He is the worst liberal we have ever had elected. Like Pharoah, God allowed him to be in this position and God will use him to bring Glory to His Name because while everyone is looking to Obama for answers, people will begin to realize (too late) that they made a grave error in judgement because they ignored the information out on this typical, liberal politician that may not be a radical (though he hangs around them), not a terrorist (though he hangs around them), he is just like the rest of those dirty politicians from Chicago. Obama is being set up to usher in the New World Order and there is no REAL Christian on this planet that would have voted for him in the first place.

Thanks for the informative article about our president's past history...I always enjoy learning about Obama's life's journey. I admire him and pray for him regularly. Obama's encouragement to people of differing backgrounds and beliefs to work together for the common good brings to mind the late Frances Schaeffer's admonition to Christians to work together with others as "co-belligerants"in the great struggle to bring about the will of God "on Earth as it is in heaven". What an encompassing and worthy mandate for the challenges of our time!

John G & Mac, What idiotic comments! Kudos to CT for publishing such a story. I'm almost shocked that a Christian magazine has the depth to understand the political development of an American president - even one whom many of us find difficult to deal with. I really like your editors!

I've long seen Obama as a forerunner of the Antichrist: someone who will seem to have all the answers to all the problems. This article does nothing to dispel that notion.

I think he is a Muslim and always will be one.
