I did vote, but then realized we changed churches mainly because we moved to another part of the country, so the poll should have been worded differently to reflect the reason for changing churches.

I chose not to cast my vote in the poll about changing churches because I think it makes a difference whether we change churches in-town or because we move to another city or state. The poll questions didn't take that into account. My wife and I have attended/been members of 9 churches in 46 years of marriage. Six of those changes were caused by geographical moves; the other 3 were based on choices within the same general community.

We were a Navy Family for 26 years. We moved from two places in the east coast area, attended two churches there. Then moved to the west coast N.California. Attend two churches there. Then move farther north attended two churches and finally here in our 66+ years returned to roots. The Lutheran Church.......Each place of worship offered different things, but we grew in our Faith.....

LAH: Brilliant! Biblical! (Sadly) Refreshing! Howard: I'm an L.A. kid... would never have left the local church where I came to know the Lord had I not moved. I was there for 15 years. When my family and I relocated, we were led to a new church plant. Still worshiping and serving there 20 years later. Some primary criteria for 'choosing' a local Body? SOUND DOCTRINE!! Everything else necessary, required, and commanded will follow. All else should be subordinate to a high view of Scripture; Not... dead liturgy, youth programs, great music (I'm a musician), 'fun' people, etc. These are not the priorities of true believers. Certainly, accountability and practical appplication of the Biblical principles we learn must have fertile ground and opportunity to flourish. Strong, committed, and uncompromising leadership are also essential. None of these critical components of true spiritual growth are possible if we bounce around like rabbits! John: Are you serious? Sad.

Where are all these stable people? Midwest and South maybe? (Switching only 1-3 times?) I think I'd have trouble finding more than a couple people here in CA with that kind of consistency.

My reasons for switching: 1. Raised Nazarene - at age 20 had theological questions and became Baptist (had friends there). 2. Studied more and became Nazarene again after 3 or 4 years. 3. Moved to another city. 4. Church became too "seeker-friendly." Was not getting fed, so went to another Nazarene church. 5. Went back to bigger "seeker-friendly" church for children's program for my kids. 6. Became Roman Catholic

If we followed God's commission rather that trying to adjust to the poles the world might be a very different place. We were told to go & make disciples not just believers. We have many believers with few followers because the church has not filled its mandate or trained others to do so. We avoid issues to keep the numbers up when in actuality we are populating Hell with people who think they are ok when they are not. We have given them the cure without giving them the diagnosis. If we would seek to build His Kingdom not just our congregations we would have a very different approach to ministry. Jesus said woe to you pharisees & scribes who travel land & sea to win one convert & when you have won them you make them twice the child of Hell as yourselves. "The world cannot hate us because we have become too much like its own." Jim Elliot.
